Olubadan: A Peaceful King Is Gone – Ibadan Baales React

Condolence Visit to the Palace of the Olubadan

The Association of Ibadan Traditional Baales recently made a condolence visit to the Palace of the Olubadan, expressing their deep sorrow over the passing of the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin. The visit was held on Tuesday, following the monarch’s demise on Monday in the early hours.

A statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the late Olubadan, Gbenga Ayoade, confirmed that Oba Olakulehiun had passed away in Ibadan, the state capital. His death marked the end of an era for the community, as he was widely respected for his leadership and contributions to the region.

During the visit, representatives from the Baale Kinabi village in the Ido Local Government Area of the state, led by Bashiru Adisa, expressed their condolences. They described the late Olubadan as “a disciplined, courageous and peace-loving monarch.” Their words reflected the deep admiration and respect that many residents had for him.

In response to the visit, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, who welcomed the group to the palace, called upon them to provide “unalloyed support” for the new Olubadan. He emphasized the importance of unity and stability in Ibadanland, urging the traditional leaders to work together to maintain peace and uphold the dignity of the institution.

Representing the late Olubadan at the event was Oba Amidu Ajibade, the Ekerin Olubadan of Ibadanland. Oba Ladoja used the opportunity to admonish the attendees, urging them to ensure that peace prevails in Ibadanland. He also encouraged them to avoid any actions that could damage the reputation of both the Olubadan and the region as a whole.

Messages of Unity and Progress

Earlier in the day, the Maye Olubadan, Senior Chief Lekan Alabi, delivered a message that resonated with the attendees. He urged the people of Ibadanland—sons, daughters, and residents alike—to take an active role in the development of their community. He emphasized the need for unity, progress, and collective effort to move Ibadanland forward.

His call to action highlighted the importance of civic responsibility and the shared goal of fostering growth and prosperity in the region. It served as a reminder that the strength of Ibadanland lies in the cooperation and dedication of its people.

Attendees at the Meeting

The meeting brought together a diverse group of influential figures from the Ibadanland community. Members of the Olubadan Advisory Council, High Chiefs, Mogajis, Baales, and the Iyaloja of Ibadanland, Chief (Mrs) Oyinlola Abiola Ameringun, were among those present. Their presence underscored the significance of the occasion and the high regard in which the Olubadan is held.

This gathering not only provided an opportunity for mourning but also served as a platform for discussions on the future of Ibadanland. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the values of peace, unity, and progress that have long defined the region.

As the community moves forward, the legacy of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin will continue to inspire and guide the people of Ibadanland. His passing marks the end of one chapter, but it also opens the door for new opportunities and continued growth under the leadership of the new Olubadan.
