Oyo State Approves Major Security and Infrastructure Projects
The Oyo State Executive Council has taken significant steps to enhance security and infrastructure development across the state. One of the key decisions made was the immediate procurement of two surveillance aircraft, valued at N7,763,360,000. This move is aimed at strengthening security efforts and combating various criminal activities.
The decision was announced in a statement released by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade. The statement highlighted that the two DA 42 MNG model aircraft are designed for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations. These aircraft are equipped with advanced surveillance technology that can identify targets from both high and low altitudes. The statement emphasized that these aircraft will play a crucial role in supporting the Amotekun and other security agencies in the state.
The primary objectives of acquiring these aircraft include preventing and dismantling bandit hideouts, as well as addressing issues such as illegal mining and kidnapping. The statement noted that the choice of fixed-wing aircraft over helicopters was based on several factors. The DA 42 MNG models are more cost-effective to maintain, have readily available spare parts, and are already in use by the Nigerian Air Force. This ensures better coordination and synergy between the state’s security forces and the national air force.
In addition to the security measures, the council also approved substantial funding for major infrastructure projects. A significant portion of the budget, amounting to N83,037,000,000, is allocated for the completion of the Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road project. This project spans 110 kilometers and includes the construction of bridges, interchanges, and the clearing of specific segments around Molarere, Odo-Oba, and the Abiola Ajimobi Technical University axis.
The government has assured that 72 kilometers of the road will be completed before the end of Governor Seyi Makinde’s tenure. This commitment reflects the state’s dedication to improving transportation infrastructure and facilitating economic growth.
Other infrastructure projects receiving funding include:
- N36,346,000,000 for the asphaltic improvement of Secretariat Road, Trans Amusement–UI–Sango Road, and Obafemi Awolowo Stadium Road.
- N6,801,000,000 for the reconstruction of the Mobil–Oluyole Industrial Estate road network.
These investments are expected to enhance connectivity and support industrial and commercial activities within the state.
Additionally, the council approved N595,000,000 for direct intervention in the operations and maintenance of the Light-up Oyo Solar Project. A monthly allocation of N190,000,000 has been set aside for ongoing maintenance, ensuring the sustainability of this renewable energy initiative.
The comprehensive approach taken by the Oyo State Executive Council demonstrates a clear focus on both security and infrastructure development. By investing in advanced surveillance technology and upgrading critical roads, the state aims to create a safer and more connected environment for its residents. These initiatives are expected to contribute significantly to the overall development and stability of Oyo State.
