Coalition Pushes Nigeria Toward Ruin, Sowore Warns

Criticism of the New Opposition Coalition by African Action Congress Candidate

Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate for the African Action Congress, has voiced strong criticisms against the newly formed opposition coalition known as the African Democratic Congress. His remarks have sparked significant debate within Nigeria’s political landscape.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s “The Morning Brief,” Sowore expressed his concerns about the moral integrity of several members of the coalition. He stated that many individuals involved lack the necessary qualities to lead the country effectively. This stance was rooted in his belief that aligning with such a group would compromise his principles and values.

Sowore emphasized that his decision not to support the coalition is deeply personal. While he acknowledges that the concept of a coalition touches on broader issues of governance and politics, he feels that the specific members of this coalition are not aligned with his vision for Nigeria’s future. He mentioned that sitting across the table from these individuals would tempt him to act contrary to his character.

He accused several figures within the coalition of betraying the Nigerian people. According to Sowore, these individuals have engaged in actions that are considered evil and lack the necessary conscience, character, and pedigree. He described them as people who engage in corruption, shortchange the public, and act selfishly.

Sowore stressed that his position is based on documented evidence rather than mere opinions. He has compiled extensive records of the conduct and lifestyle of those involved in the coalition. Based on empirical evidence, he concluded that any country transitioning from the current ruling party to this coalition would be moving from destruction to perdition.

He argued that while there are genuine individuals in Nigeria’s political arena who aim to save the country, others in both the ruling party and the opposition are focused on exploiting the population further. Sowore highlighted that these individuals have previously held power and their stories are well-documented.

His conditions for supporting any political movement are centered around helping the Nigerian people and ensuring the country is saved from both the current rulers and those planning to exploit it in the future.

The African Democratic Congress, which has adopted its name as a political party, is preparing for the 2027 general elections. The coalition includes prominent figures such as Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president; Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party; Rauf Aregbesola, the former governor of Osun State; Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna; and David Mark, the former senate president, among others.

This new coalition represents a significant shift in Nigeria’s political dynamics, bringing together a diverse group of leaders with varying backgrounds and experiences. However, the inclusion of individuals criticized by Sowore raises questions about the coalition’s credibility and effectiveness in addressing the challenges facing the nation.

As the 2027 elections approach, the African Democratic Congress will need to address these concerns and demonstrate a commitment to ethical leadership and genuine reform. The upcoming political landscape in Nigeria will likely be shaped by the actions and decisions of this coalition, as well as the responses from other political actors and the electorate.
