Foord, an Australian defender, and midfielder McCabe are visiting Rwanda for the second time. Their previous trip in 2022 included tours of various tourist attractions and a coaching clinic, which helped foster connections between football and local communities. This time, the focus is on a tour at Akagera National Park, one of Rwanda’s most iconic wildlife reserves. The visit aligns with the partnership between Arsenal and the Rwandan government’s tourism initiative, Visit Rwanda, which was extended in 2021.

According to the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) communications, the three stars chose Rwanda for their vacation. This decision highlights the growing appeal of Rwanda as a destination for both leisure and professional engagement.

Who Are the Arsenal Trio?

Katie McCabe had an exceptional 2024-25 season with Arsenal. Her performance in the UEFA Women’s Champions League was particularly notable, as she played all 90 minutes in the final and set a new record for the most minutes played in a single UEFA Women’s Club season (1,296 minutes). She started every one of Arsenal’s 15 matches in the competition, showcasing her consistency and dedication.

Caitlin Foord also played a vital role in the team’s success. As a key attacking player, she contributed significantly with three goals and one assist in the tournament, including the assist for the winning goal in the final against Barcelona. In addition, she scored six goals and delivered two assists in the Women’s Super League (WSL), further solidifying her impact on the field.

Laia Codina, as a defender, provided defensive reliability and depth. She contributed to the team’s strong backline and impressive passing accuracy (96.5% in the Champions League). Codina also scored one goal in the UEFA Women’s Champions League across 8 appearances and another goal in the FA Women’s Cup. She was a valuable squad member, featuring in both WSL (7 appearances) and Champions League matches, and was on the bench during the Champions League final.

A Global Impact Beyond the Pitch

The visit to Rwanda is not just about leisure; it reflects the broader efforts of Arsenal to engage with different cultures and promote sports development globally. Through partnerships like the one with Visit Rwanda, the club continues to support community initiatives and encourage young athletes to pursue their dreams.

This trip also underscores the importance of football as a unifying force that transcends borders. By bringing together players from different backgrounds, Arsenal reinforces its commitment to inclusivity and international collaboration.

As the trio explores Rwanda’s natural beauty and cultural heritage, their presence serves as an inspiration to fans and aspiring athletes alike. It is a reminder that football is more than just a game—it is a powerful tool for connection, growth, and positive change.
