A Unique Experience at Glastonbury Festival
Returning from a vibrant long weekend at the renowned Glastonbury music festival, I found myself immersed in an unforgettable experience. Nestled in the English county of Somerset, this rural area transforms into one of the most densely populated places on Earth for five days, with approximately 210,000 people packed into just 1.4 square miles. The atmosphere is electric, and the sheer scale of the event is both exhilarating and overwhelming.
During my time at the festival, I brought along several essentials: a tent, sunscreen, wellies (just in case), and a selfie stick that I was reviewing. I believed the festival would be the perfect setting to test its capabilities, not only for capturing group photos but also for getting some memorable shots against the backdrop of rock ’n roll legends.
In addition to the selfie stick, I also carried a Bath Rugby flag to add some flair to my tent. My team had recently won the top-flight English Rugby Premiership league title, following a successful run in both the Premiership Rugby Cup and the European Rugby Challenge Cup. Celebrating the treble was a must, and I couldn’t help but cheer, “Come on, you Baaaath!”
While I’m no stranger to music festivals, Glastonbury is a completely different experience. The number of people can be staggering, making it challenging to navigate with a group. One moment, your friends are right there, and the next, they’re gone, lost in the crowd. Regrouping can take considerable time, and pre-arranged meetings often feel like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
This is where the flags people carry around come in handy. They make it easier to keep track of your group and locate each other in the sea of people. I already had a flag, so all I needed was a way to attach it to a pole. However, I didn’t want to carry a large, cumbersome flagpole all day. Then it occurred to me—my selfie stick could serve as the perfect solution.
The KraftGeek JustTap Magnetic Phone Tripod extends to an impressive five-and-a-half feet, allowing it to be raised above the crowds, yet it collapses to a manageable 13 inches when not in use. This made it easy to store in my tote bag when everyone was together. Moreover, its primary function as a tripod-cum-selfie stick meant that I could gently place it on its end, and its three feet would automatically pop out, keeping the flag extended and upright without needing to hold it.
This setup worked exceptionally well for keeping my group together as we moved through the crowd. It also proved invaluable for locating each other when we met up to watch a band we were all excited about. Plus, it wasn’t bad for taking selfies either.
I plan to provide a detailed review of the KraftGeek JustTap Magnetic Phone Tripod soon, once I’ve recovered from the Glastonbury experience. I have no doubt that it will be featured in our guides to the best selfie sticks and phone tripods.
