Dynamos Face Another Disheartening Defeat in Premier Soccer League
Dynamos’ struggles in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League have continued to intensify, as they suffered a 2-0 loss against Herentals College at Rufaro Stadium. This defeat has deepened their relegation concerns, leaving them in a precarious position in the league table.
The Glamour Boys, once a dominant force in Zimbabwean football, now sit in 17th place with just 15 points from 18 games. Only Kwekwe United is positioned lower in the standings, highlighting the severity of Dynamos’ current situation.
The match began with a setback for Dynamos when Tino Benza scored an early goal in the first half, capitalizing on a free-kick delivery from Prince Chama. The team’s defensive vulnerabilities were further exposed in the 55th minute when captain Shadreck Nyahwa accidentally scored an own goal, sealing another loss for the struggling side.
Coach Saul Chaminuka acknowledged the team’s defensive issues after the game, admitting that conceding goals was a key problem. “It’s one game where we conceded easy goals,” he said. “Call them mistakes, call them anything. But that’s the game of football for you. We go back, prepare again, and keep on fighting.”
Chaminuka also pointed out the team’s inability to convert chances into goals despite creating opportunities. “We saw chances coming early in the first half where the intention was shown, but it wasn’t exerted to the fullest,” he explained. “We need to be convincing in terms of our completion of tasks. We play, we get there, but at the end of the day, we have nothing to show. And we have to keep on working.”
He emphasized that the team is focusing on improving their finishing and scoring capabilities. “We have done a lot of work. We will continue to do work that is directed to finishing and scoring goals. The game of football is about goals.”
Herentals FC Celebrate Crucial Victory
Herentals FC coach Paul Benza expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, particularly their ability to find the back of the net after a long goalless streak. “Firstly, we were going for five games without scoring even a single goal,” he said. “And we knew that coming into today’s game and playing again at Rufaro, we were supposed to score.”
Benza introduced three strikers at the start of the match, which proved effective as they managed to secure the opening goal. The team then extended their lead in the second half with another goal, showcasing their improved attacking strategy.
Looking ahead, Benza outlined the team’s ambitions for the second half of the season. “I’m happy with the boys. And looking at the turn of the second half of the season, where you want to be as a team,” he said. “We’re going to add two or three players at the moment because there are some departments that we feel we need some depth.”
“Our goal, as we said earlier on, is that we try to finish in the top four. If we fail, then we’ll have failed to meet our targets because last year we finished fifth. So we are going to fight very hard to try and finish in the top four.”
