Tiny Iowa Town of Miles Kicks Off 49th Annual Great River Threshers Weekend

Miles, Iowa (KWQC) -The fields of Miles will come alive with the hum of antique engines, the scent of barbecue, and the spirit of community as the 49th annual
Great River Threshers weekend
kicks off from July 11 to 13 at the festival grounds in southeast corner of Miles.

This beloved celebration of agricultural heritage and small-town camaraderie offers free admission and a packed schedule of family-friendly activities.

What to expect

Whether you’re a history buff, a BBQ enthusiast, or just looking for a fun weekend outing, there’s something for everyone:

  • Antique Tractor & Engine Displays: Watch vintage machinery in action and learn about the tools that shaped Midwest farming.
  • Threshing Demonstrations: See how grain was separated from chaff the old-fashioned way.
  • Parade of Power: A daily procession of restored tractors and steam engines.
  • Live Music & Entertainment: Local acts and toe-tapping tunes throughout the weekend.
  • Kids’ Activities: Games, rides, and hands-on exhibits to keep young visitors engaged.
  • Craft & Vendor Market: Shop handmade goods and local products.

BBQ competition

The
Great River Threshers BBQ Contest
is a major draw, sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS).

This Backyard Double Contest runs July 11–12, featuring categories like chicken, pork ribs, brisket, and more—with $5,000 (total) in prize money and only 20 teams competing.

Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned event throughout the weekend: 20 teams coming in and they will be grilling ribs, chicken, and pork-people can come and test out samples
