AIOU Launches ‘Alumni Corner’ to Celebrate Graduates and Expand Networks

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has inaugurated a dedicated ‘Alumni Corner’ on its campus in a significant move aimed at strengthening long-term engagement with its former students. The initiative was formally launched by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood during a ceremony attended by senior faculty members and principal officers of the university.

The newly established section is designed to honor the academic, professional, and social contributions of AIOU’s distinguished alumni who are serving in key roles both in Pakistan and abroad.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chancellor Dr. Nasir Mahmood shared that over five million students have graduated from AIOU to date, with approximately 100,000 more joining the alumni ranks each year. He highlighted the global footprint of AIOU graduates and their valuable contributions across various sectors.

Dr. Mahmood underscored the need for a dynamic, well-connected, and sustainable alumni network. He emphasized that such a network could play a crucial role in student welfare, scholarships, fundraising, career mentoring, and boosting the university’s international reputation. He also urged alumni to actively engage in networking, information sharing, and community service to enhance the image of AIOU.

During the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor recorded his comments in the Alumni Visitors’ Book and congratulated the Student Affairs team, led by Director Syed Ghulam Kazim Ali, on the successful launch of the initiative. He also instructed the preparation of comprehensive working papers for the Alumni Corner to guide its development in future phases.

Director Student Affairs Syed Ghulam Kazim Ali presented upcoming plans for strengthening the alumni network. Other speakers at the event included Director General of Regional Services Dr. Malik Tauqir Ahmad Khan, Dean Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies Prof. Dr. Moeenuddin Hashmi, and Director of Coordination and Administration Prof. Dr. Syed Aamir Shah. They praised the initiative as a visionary step toward fostering deeper alumni-university ties.
