Escalating Tensions: Israeli Strikes Kill 1, Injure 20 in Southern Lebanon

Pakistan, June 27 — A woman was killed and 20 others wounded on Friday in Israeli airstrikes across southern Lebanon, according to the Lebanese health ministry. The strikes, described as heavy and successive, targeted areas in and around Nabatiyeh, where Israel claims Hezbollah operates key infrastructure.

The most severe strike hit an apartment in Nabatiyeh, killing a woman and injuring at least 13 others. Another round of airstrikes in nearby areas wounded seven more people, authorities confirmed. Lebanese state media reported that an Israeli drone was involved in the initial apartment attack.

Israel’s military later confirmed the attacks, stating fighter jets struck a site near the Beaufort Ridge used by Hezbollah to manage its “fire and defence array.” According to the Israeli statement, this underground facility had been under reconstruction before the strike “completely took it out of use.”

Lebanese officials strongly condemned the Israeli actions. President Joseph Aoun called the strikes a violation of international law and urged the global community to intervene. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam echoed the condemnation, describing the raids as a threat to Lebanon’s sovereignty and regional peace.

Under the 2006 ceasefire agreement, Hezbollah was required to retreat north of the Litani River, while Israel was supposed to withdraw from all Lebanese territory. However, both sides have accused each other of breaching the terms. The latest violence adds to rising fears of renewed conflict in the already volatile border region.
