TRINITY, Texas (
KETK
) — Heavy rain in Trinity has caused flooding in subdivisions, leaving many homes with significant damage.
Footage shows the extent of the flooding, though Sheriff Woody Wallace noted that residents in the area are accustomed to such conditions, as flooding regularly occurs during periods of heavy rain. Now, the only access to the area is by boat or jet ski.

Wallace said residents have the option to evacuate if they choose. According to the National Water Prediction Service, the City of Trinity has received
between 0.5 and 0.75 inches of rainfall in the past 24 hours,
with subdivisions along Doug Road recording up to one inch.

Conditions may deteriorate further, with the National Weather Service forecasting a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday night,
and a 30% chance of rain between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday.
Last year,
Trinity County also faced significant flooding and washed-out roads after receiving nearly 24 inches of rain over two days.
“Trinity River over here in Trinity is probably the worst, and of course, we have a lot of subdivisions up and down here and some of them have gone underwater and flooded the people out,” Neal Smith, Trinity County Commissioner of Precinct 3, said in May 2024.
Less than 10 minutes down the road from Trinity, the City of Riverside is also dealing with flooding as it has seen
anywhere from .5 to .75 inches of rainfall in the last 24 hours.
