Africa’s

leading sports development institution, CitySports Africa, has clinched two championship titles at the prestigious Schwabenland Cup in Stuttgart, Germany, securing victories in the U-9 and U-15 categories in a historic achievement for the Nigerian-based academy.

The remarkable double triumph at the European Football Cup, organised by Ballfreunde, marked the first time CitySports Africa has secured two international trophies in a single tournament, representing a milestone in the academy’s pursuit of global excellence.

The tournament served as the opening phase of the academy’s 2025 Global Sports Programme, marking the fourteenth international sports trip undertaken by the institution since its establishment.

The Nigerian contingent competed across three age categories – U-9, U-12, and U-15 – displaying exceptional skill, discipline, and sportsmanship whilst proudly representing the country on foreign soil.

All three CitySports Africa teams progressed to the semi-finals of their respective categories, with the U-9 and U-15 squads advancing to claim gold medals, whilst the U-12 team finished in fourth place after a valiant campaign.

The U-9 category delivered a masterful performance in the knockout phase, recording two clean sheets and scoring eight goals en route to clinching the European Cup title in commanding style. The U-15 team demonstrated remarkable composure in their final, emerging as 2025 Schwabenland Cup champions after prevailing in a penalty shootout following a tightly contested match.

CitySports Africa Chief Executive Officer Shola Opaleye said, “This moment is a testament to the talent, tenacity, and teamwork that define CitySports Africa. This isn’t just a win for CitySports Africa, it’s a win for Nigeria.

“Taking home two trophies from an international tournament speaks volumes about the resilience, talent, and determination of our young athletes. Representing the country on this stage was an honour, and every child gave their all. We didn’t just participate, we dominated. From Nigeria to Stuttgart, the world saw our potential and our passion for the sport.”

The Schwabenland Cup stands as one of Europe’s most respected youth football tournaments, attracting elite teams from across the globe and featuring over 120 participating teams from across Europe. The competition guarantees each team a minimum of six matches, providing extensive competitive experience for young players.
