The Israeli army say that its forces carried out a targeted strike in western Iran in which Behnam Shahriari, commander of the Combat Vehicle Transport Unit (Unit 190) of Iran’s Quds Force, was killed
According to Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee, Shahriari was killed inside his vehicle.
This is said to be the third reported killing of a high-ranking Iranian commander by Israeli forces in recent hours. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz had earlier claimed his country killed Saeed Izadi, head of the Palestine Corps of Iran’s Quds Force, in a strike on an apartment in Qom.
The Israeli Air Force had also earlier claimed responsibility for the targeted killing of Amin Pour Joudaki, commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Second Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Brigade.
Iranian officials are yet to respond to the reports. The strikes are part of an ongoing escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran, which began on June 13 when Israel launched targeted airstrikes on Iran.
Israeli authorities says at least 25 people have been killed and hundreds injured in Iranian missile attacks since the hostilities began.
In Iran, 430 people are said to have been killed and more than 3,500 wounded in the Israeli assault.
