(WABI) – WABI asked Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, about the ICE raids across the country and the protests happening in L.A. regarding immigration policies the Trump administration has put into effect.
Collins tells us she does believe people who are here illegally should be sent back to their home country, but due process should be followed.
“We should not curtail the due process to which they are entitled, but we also cannot have the kind of open borders that we saw in the Biden administration where we had so many people, more than a million people crossing the border illegally into our country,” said Collins. “If you are applying for asylum, you should cross in through a legal port of entry.”
Collins also commented on the removal of Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., from a Department of Homeland Security press conference Thursday saying he did nothing wrong.
She says the removal was completely unacceptable and shocking, and it was disturbing to see a United States senator tackled and handcuffed.
