One of the most dominant voices to soundtrack the ’60s and ’70s is that of
John Fogerty,
the lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist of Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR). Fogerty’s words were hugely important to the decades that he performed in, often commenting and providing a voice to the people regarding issues like the Vietnam War.
Fogerty led the band to incredible success, becoming one of the most iconic classic rock acts to this day. Songs like “Fortunate Son,” “Proud Mary,” and “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” are hugely important to the rock canon.
The latter song has gotten some attention recently, as it has been re-recorded for an upcoming project from Fogerty that explores his legacy with CCR. In a recent video, Fogerty gave some background into the song and the new version.
Of his beloved song, Fogerty said, “Because the words are quite mysterious, it makes you feel really good. There’s times when we, as people, as humans, just feel good about being together and enjoying something together. It might be a sporting event, it might be a big picnic with your family, or in this case, singing songs in a concert.
He continues, “When I sing it with the crowd, I thank them for singing all of my songs all these years, and I tell those people, ‘You are a rainbow in my heart…,’ and then I always say, ‘And this song has a rainbow in it.'”
Fans were touched by the story, leaving their feelings about it and the legendary song in the comments.
“I have this wonderful song on my playlist! 💕”
“One of the greatest songs written.”
“Amazing how well this mans voice has aged.”
Another person summed things up perfectly, saying, “Creedence songs will outlive all of us, and the next generation will roll down the highway like we did, feeling good about life… thanks to John … 😎
The new version is very impressive, especially with how little Fogerty’s voice has aged. The full album will be out on August 22nd this year.
