Chicago Weekend Violence: 2 Dead, 8 Injured in Shooting Spree, Police Report

At least two people were killed and eight others were wounded in weekend shootings across the city, according to Chicago police.

The ages of the victims range from 34 to 72.

Shootings from Friday

In the first shooting of the weekend, officers responded to a call of a person shot around 10:18 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Walnut Street. Upon arrival, they found a 47-year-old man on the ground with a gunshot wound to the arm and abdomen. He was treated by fire crews and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

While on scene, they received another report of a person shot in an alley. There, officers found a 43-year-old man shot in the 3300 block of West Lake Street. He suffered a gunshot wound to the right torso and abdomen. Fire crews also treated him before he was taken to Mt. Sinai in critical condition.

The victims did not provide any further details about the shootings.

Then, at around 11:30 p.m. in the

5300 block of West Belmont Avenue

, a 72-year-old man was parking his vehicle when an unknown armed man attempted to remove property through his car window.

The victim opened his car door, and a struggle ensued between the two. During this, the gun fell to the ground and discharged, hitting the victim in the leg. The armed man left the scene.

The victim self-transported to Community First Hospital in good condition.

Shootings from Saturday

  • At 2:48 a.m. in the 8300 block of South Sangamon Street, a 34-year-old man was standing by his car in the street when two armed, unknown males approached and removed property from the victim. The gunmen then shot at the victim in the side of the torso and fled the scene in a dark SUV. The victim was treated by fire crews and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
  • At 6:23 p.m. in the 2000 block of East 79th Street, a 35-year-old man was found slumped over the wheel of a car with a gunshot wound to his right arm. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition and was later pronounced dead. A 4-year-old boy who was also in the car but was not injured.
  • At 9 p.m. in the 200 block of West 95th Street, officers responded to a call of a person shot and found the victim, a 34-year-old woman, with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim refused all medical treatment and was uncooperative with providing details of the incident to responding officers and walked away.

Shootings from Sunday

  • At 12:28 p.m. in the 800 block of West 76th Street, a 36-year-old man was inside an apartment when he was shot in the right leg by an unknown person. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
  • At 4:46 p.m. in the 200 block of South Central Avenue, a man, 55, was inside a vehicle when a white-in-color Jeep approached him, and an occupant from the Jeep produced a handgun and fired shots. The victim was hit in the arm and was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, initially reported in fair condition. A person of interest was transported to the area for questioning.
  • At 8:05 p.m. in the

    5400 block of South Damen Avenue

    , two men, 69 and 51, were exiting a business when three unknown people exited a dark sedan, displayed firearms, and opened fire. The 69-year-old was shot in the chest and back and died at the scene. The 51-year-old was hit in the left leg and rear and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.

Unless otherwise noted, no arrests were made in either incident.
