A DUI and driver’s license checkpoint is set to occur in Shasta County on Saturday, Nov. 29.
The checkpoint will be conducted by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) at an undisclosed location within the county. They say the location was chosen based on a history of DUI crashes, DUI arrests and traffic patterns. The purpose of the checkpoint is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.
SCSO also reminded the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol, but also from certain prescription medications, over the counter medications and marijuana – all of which can interfere with a person’s ability to drive safely. Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
According to SCSO, funding for the DUI checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Highway Patrol Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program.
