A new publication, ‘Travel Southern Africa’ magazine, has been introduced with the stated objective of transforming perceptions and inspiring exploration across the Southern African region. The magazine is positioned to serve as a comprehensive guide for readers interested in adventure and regional travel.
The publication’s content is designed to transport readers to diverse destinations within Southern Africa. Featured locations include the coastal areas of KwaZulu-Natal, the extensive desert landscapes of Namibia, the urban environment of Cape Town, and the shores of Malawi. The initiative seeks to highlight the varied attractions and experiences available within the sub-continent.
According to a statement, the marketing and promotion of Southern Africa’s tourism and hospitality in the second quarter of the year began with the inaugural issue of Travel Southern Africa, which commenced simultaneously with the WTM Africa expo.
This 68 page magazine serves to help travellers discover the region’s diverse experience, showcasing a collection of photography alongside engaging narratives about attractions, accomodations, and conservation and community initiatives.
“The magazine celebrates the people, communities, and narratives that bring life to the region, from ‘Bush Breaks’ to ‘African Penguin Conservation’ and making a difference in local communities,” they stated.
The publication was created by publishers Andrew Muswala, known for his work with Travel & Leisure across Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Botswana, and Tessa Buhrmann, the award-winning preservationist and editor of Responsible Traveller.
Furthermore, the magazine will be housed at safari camps, lodges, hotels, and tour operators to reach an audience eager for authentic and ethical travel experiences, with targeted distribution in domestic and international airport lounges, including SLOW Lounge Group and South African Airways/Discovery lounges, which reach 100,000 travellers monthly.
The decision to launch a print magazine was made with careful consideration of its environmental impact and audience reach. “We’re committed to ensuring our print edition has the lowest possible footprint,” Buhrmann explained. “By limiting print volumes and maximising distribution in airport lounges, hotel rooms, and lodges, each copy is read by multiple travellers, enhancing reach without excess waste.”
Travel Southern Africa is available in both print and digital forms. This is to ensure easy accessiblilty and alignment with the magazine’s ethos of responsible and ethical tourism, and its mission to elevate domestic and international travel within the region.
Travel Southern Africa further invites leading tourism brands and advertisers to join in raising the profile of this publication. For photography or editorial submissions, contact
