The founder of Firelight Global Gospel Network, Ayo Oluwagunna, has urged Nigerian youths to take responsibility for their destinies, regardless of the failures of the nation’s leadership.
Oluwagunna, who spoke on Sunday during the launch of his book, titled “Winning the War Against Wasters,” said while governments and institutions may fail, individuals must not let that become an excuse for personal failure.
Although Oluwagunna attributed the rising frustration among Nigerian youths to the widespread failure of leadership, he said the youths must resist the urge to surrender their future to despair, discouragement, or a sense of helplessness.
He noted that while leadership has fallen short in providing opportunities, especially in employment and governance, young people must rise above these systemic challenges by choosing diligence, self-development, and faith in God.
“Everything rises and falls on leadership; and if what we parade as success in politics, in governance, and all over the place is opulence as affluence, not hard work and diligence, then the leaders have failed the youths.
“We have seen people in places of influence and leadership who with all the records clearly show that they should not be there, this begins to discourage the youths, but the youths must ensure that if they (leaders) have failed them, you should not fail yourself because your destiny is in your hands and you cannot blame somebody else for that,” Oluwagunna said.
Speaking on the book, Oluwagunna said “Winning the War Against Wasters,” was written to help individuals recognise and confront the unseen forces, habits, and choices that quietly rob people of their potential and purpose.
He noted that many people, especially youths, were being unconsciously led down a path of unproductivity due to the negative examples set by leadership and society at large.
The book, he added, is a wake-up call to reclaim what has been lost and to build a meaningful life grounded in purpose, faith, and responsibility.
