Vietnam Grabs Second Spot in Paid Reviews on TripAdvisor: An Unenviable Title

According to a recent report, Indonesia leads with the highest incidence of “paid reviews” on the U.S.-based travel site TripAdvisor at 20%, trailed by Vietnam at 14.1% and the United States at 8.9%.

Rounding out the top 10 are Italy, the U.K., Pakistan, Egypt, India, Russia, and the Netherlands, as per the TripAdvisor Transparency Report of 2025.

Becky Foley, vice president and head of trust and safety at TripAdvisor, outlined that the platform categorizes fraudulent contributions into four types: boosting, vandalism, member fraud, and paid reviews.

According to the report, the platform handled 31 million reviews submitted by 21 million members in 2024. Out of these, 2.7 million reviews were flagged as fraudulent, with paid reviews accounting for 4.8%.

The 8% rate of fake reviews is over twice the rate reported in 2022, according to the statement.

In 2024, TripAdvisor eliminated more than 200,000 reviews believed to be created by artificial intelligence.

Established in 2000, Tripadvisor stands as one of the globe’s premier digital travel review sites, hosting an extensive collection of user-generated feedback encompassing hundreds of millions of evaluations for accommodations, eateries, tourist spots, and various travel-related services across different countries.
