Okpebholo Unveils SUVs to Edo LG Chairmen

Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, declared on Saturday that brand-new 2025 SUVs have been distributed to local government chairmen to enhance their ability to deliver services effectively. He emphasized that this move signifies a shift in perspective where these chairmen are now acknowledged as key figures under his leadership.

The governor further explained that this clarification would not affect the finances allocated to local governments, adding that this choice was made to empower the third level of governance to drive progress at the community level.

He stated, “I am grateful to God for enabling this day, since chairs now have the opportunity to operate brand-new vehicles within the state.”

Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s oversight, new developments are starting to take place in Edo State.

Edo will undergo further development even as we contend with Lagos, Abuja, and other states within the federation.

The vehicles ordered today are intended for the welfare of the general populace rather than for personal use by the local government leaders. I will be monitoring you to make sure everything is carried out correctly.

I am aware of the amounts you receive during these council meetings, and we will assess your performance based on whether it aligns with those figures. My administration hasn’t meddled with your funding or resources.

The Commissioner for Local Government, Community, and Chieftaincy Affairs, Lucky Eseigbe, praised the Governor for refraining from meddling with local government finances.

He observed that the autonomy granted to the chairmen has led to beneficial advancements throughout the 18 Local Government Areas of Edo State.

This marks the first instance in state history where 2025 model SUVs have been acquired by local government chairpersons.

These newly introduced vehicles provided to the local government leaders are intended to assist them in fulfilling their duties.

“The 18 local government chairmen are contributing to the progress of the state through the construction of classroom blocks, health care centers, and roads, alongside other infrastructure developments within their respective council areas,” he stated.

Governor Okpebholo visited the State Secretariat in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, alongside his Deputy, Dennis Idahosa, and various key governmental figures for the vehicle commissioning event.
