A Vibrant Celebration of Art and Community
The 63rd annual Krasl Art Fair is set to kick off with a block party on Friday in St. Joseph, marking the beginning of a weekend filled with creativity, culture, and community spirit. The event will run through July 12th and 13th, offering visitors a chance to experience a wide array of artistic expressions and activities.
Throughout the fair, attendees can enjoy a variety of experiences that go beyond just viewing art. There will be plenty of food and drinks available, live music performances, and opportunities to explore a diverse range of artistic talents. With more than 173 artists from over 12 states participating, the fair showcases an impressive collection of works that reflect a broad spectrum of styles and mediums.
In addition to traditional paintings, the fair features dozens of different types of art, including sculptures, ceramics, and mixed-media pieces. One standout piece is “Garden Girl,” created by artist Janice Moore. This unique artwork consists of stainless-steel tubes that her husband bends and assembles. The final piece includes a skirt and a flower crafted by her husband, along with a glass head made by Janice. The combination of metal and glass creates a striking visual that captures the essence of nature and craftsmanship.
The Krasl Art Fair has become a significant gathering for both artists and visitors from across the country. It provides a platform for creators to showcase their work while allowing the public to engage with and appreciate the arts. For many artists, the process of creating a masterpiece is not just about the final product but also about the passion and dedication that goes into each piece.
Allison and Jonathan Metzger, printmaking artists, express how fulfilling it is to bring beauty into the world. In a time when the world can often feel chaotic and overwhelming, they find joy in sharing their creations with others. “It’s incredibly fulfilling to be able to bring beauty into the world,” they said. “Especially in such a chaotic world where there are always things happening that can be really challenging to deal with. So, bringing just a little bit more beauty into the world and sharing it with people for me, I think it is the most fulfilling part of creating.”
Organizers have taken great care in planning the event, ensuring that it can take place regardless of the weather. The fair is designed to be a rain or shine event, with only extreme conditions like thunder and lightning posing a potential threat to the schedule. If it rains, the event will continue as planned, so visitors are encouraged to bring umbrellas and raincoats.
The fair is open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., giving visitors ample time to explore the exhibits, meet the artists, and enjoy the lively atmosphere. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or simply looking for a fun day out, the Krasl Art Fair offers something for everyone. It’s a celebration of creativity, community, and the enduring power of art to inspire and connect people.
