MONROE Co., Mich. (WTVG) – Six people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday around 2:30 p.m. in Monroe County.
According to a press release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, officers with the Erie Township Police Department stopped a white 2013 Ford Focus for driving recklessly. As the officer approached the vehicle during the stop, the Focus sped off, leading to a chase.
According to the press release, the officer pursued the white Ford Focus before giving up the pursuit due to reckless driving by the white Ford Focus.
After the pursuit, the white Ford Focus was traveling north on S. Dixie Highway and entered the intersection of Luna Pier Road. According to the release, the driver disregarded the red light and hit a gray 2012 Ford Focus in the intersection.
Four occupants of the white Ford Focus and two occupants of the gray Ford Focus were taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
According to the press release, speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. The press release said it is unknown if alcohol was involved in the crash at this time.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
