What started with 29 athletes has now grown to over 150 from both boys and girls teams in the area.
Today kicked off the four-day camp that invited some of the top basketball players in Section V. School 33 was this year’s site for the boys and Monroe High School hosted the girls.
Campers spent the day developing their skills in drills and games while also hearing from some of Rochester’s top coaches.

But the Iglesias want to teach more than just the game.
“Every day we have life skills and a guest speaker. You know, basketball is going to take care of itself,” Gerard Iglesia said. “We have life skills about weight training and conditioning, about healthy relationships. We have Anthony Jordan, a former NFL player, coming in and just giving kids insights on life. A college admissions workshop. So, a lot for them to pick up.”
The emphasis on life skills makes the Iglesias’ camp unique. Attendees like Jackson Green said it’s what makes the camp stand out compared to others in the Rochester area.
“There’s more than just basketball, that’s what I like about the camp,” Green said. “They teach you lessons, it’s hard work, it’s discipline. They also get it to you about the classroom. They tell you what you need academically to get to the next level, as well.”
Getting to the next level is the goal of many of the camps attendees, including Cam Blankenberg.
“They talk a lot about college,” Blankenberg said. “I’m going to college soon, and I want to take a lot away from that, recruiting wise for that. It’s just an awesome experience.”
The Iglesia Basketball Camp runs from June 30 to July 3.
