Toyota Tundra Gets Notable Updates for 2026
Toyota has taken a step forward in modernizing its full-size Tundra, even though it hasn’t undergone a complete redesign or mid-cycle refresh. The 2026 model year brings several key updates to the Tundra, ensuring it remains competitive with other vehicles in Toyota’s lineup, such as the 2024 Tacoma and new RAV4, Land Cruiser, and 4Runner models.
The 2026 Tundra continues to offer multiple trim levels, including SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro, and Capstone. These trims are available with either Toyota’s i-Force twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 engine or the i-Force MAX hybrid version on higher trims. While power figures remain consistent, the hybridized i-Force MAX offers enhanced performance with 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque, thanks to an electric motor that adds 48 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.
New Features and Improvements
Several updates have been introduced to enhance both functionality and comfort. One notable change is the standardization of a 32.2-gallon fuel tank across all Tundra models. Additionally, the Capstone trim now features a new Shale (light gray) textured leather option, while the Limited trim comes with standard leather seats in two color combinations—black with white stitching or gray with black stitching.
The Double Cab variant now includes rear-seat air vents, which extend from the back of the center console and direct airflow toward the rear passengers. Every Tundra also receives a standard tow hitch and 7/4 pin trailer connector, improving towing capabilities.
Enhanced Packages and Options
For those looking for additional features, several packages have been updated. Platinum and 1794 Edition Tundras equipped with the TRD Off-Road package can now be ordered with power-deploying running boards. The SX package, available on lower-tier trims, now includes 20-inch wheels instead of the previous 18-inch size, along with body-color trim.
The TRD Rally package is now offered with a TRD 3-inch Lift Kit and Tow Tech package, combining multiple features into one comprehensive offering. This bundle likely adds significant value, though the exact cost is expected to exceed $10,000.
TRD Pro Trim Upgrades
The TRD Pro trim level sees the most substantial changes for 2026. A new exclusive paint color, “Wave Maker,” a striking light blue, is introduced for the TRD Pro model. This color is shared with other TRD Pro models, including the 4Runner, Tacoma, and Sequoia.
Additionally, the TRD Pro Tundra now features the “Iso Dynamic” shock-absorbing front seats originally found on the midsize Tacoma TRD Pro. These seats are designed to reduce vibrations and improve comfort, particularly during off-road driving. Unlike in the Tacoma, where space was limited, the Tundra’s larger cabin allows these seats to maintain adequate legroom for rear passengers.
What to Expect Next
Toyota is expected to release full pricing and availability details for the 2026 Tundra soon. The company appears to be transitioning to the 2026 model year across its entire lineup, suggesting that the new trucks will be available for purchase by the fall. These updates ensure the Tundra remains a strong contender in the full-size truck market, offering a blend of performance, comfort, and practicality.
