2025 Kia K4 Sedan Launches Soon; Hatch to Follow

Introduction to the 2025 Kia K4

The 2025 Kia K4 is set to redefine the brand’s entry-level sedan segment. It replaces the Kia Forte and Rio, marking a new era for Kia’s most affordable vehicle in its lineup. The K4 brings a fresh design and updated features that are expected to attract a wide range of buyers.

Design and Features

The K4 is not just a rebranding; it represents a significant evolution. The car boasts a sleek, modern look with vertical headlights positioned at the corners and a fastback roofline that gives it a sporty appearance. This design is complemented by a larger body compared to its predecessor, the Forte, making it the biggest in its class.

Inside, the K4 offers a variety of trim levels, including LX, LXS, GT-Line, GT-Line Turbo, and a new addition, the EX. The EX model features a unique slate green interior, while other options include two-tone black and white, medium gray, and a red/black combo reminiscent of the Kia K5. There are eight exterior colors and five wheel choices, providing buyers with ample customization options.

Performance and Powertrains

The powertrain options carry over from the Forte, ensuring reliability and performance. The base engine is a 2.0-liter Atkinson four-cylinder paired with a CVT, delivering 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. For those seeking more power, an upgraded 1.6-liter turbo-four engine is available, producing 190 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Kia has not introduced a hybrid version for the K4, but an all-electric EV3 compact crossover is in development. Although it will be sold in the U.S., it is expected to launch after 2026. Executives have not confirmed whether this will be the last generation of gas-powered K4 models.

Interior Technology and Convenience

The interior of the K4 is equipped with advanced technology, featuring a 12.3-inch driver display and a center infotainment screen of the same size. This setup caters to younger buyers who prioritize tech features. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, enhancing connectivity.

One of the standout features is the AI voice assistant, which uses natural language queries instead of keywords. It remembers context for follow-up questions and provides local and trip information, along with an owner’s manual for vehicle-related inquiries.

The K4 also introduces rotatable cupholders, borrowed from the Kia EV9 three-row electric SUV. These holders can accommodate a 32-ounce beverage or retract for additional storage space. Additional convenience features include four USB outlets and an optional wireless charger.

Availability and Pricing

Production of the K4 will begin in Mexico, with the sedan model set to go on sale in the third quarter. A hatchback version was showcased at the 2024 New York auto show, and while it may not be available until the 2026 model year, it is expected to be added to the lineup.

Pricing details will be announced closer to the on-sale date, but it is anticipated that the K4 will start above the Forte’s $21,145 starting price. Kia continues its tradition of offering a high level of features and value at a competitive price, making the K4 an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers.
