The Enduring Legacy of the Lexus LFA
The Lexus LFA has remained a symbol of automotive excellence and innovation for years. Often regarded as one of the greatest supercars ever made, the LFA was a bold statement from Lexus, showcasing their commitment to performance and engineering. At its heart was a 4.8L 1LR-GUE V10 engine, developed in collaboration with Yamaha, which delivered an impressive 553 horsepower and 350 lb⋅ft of torque. This powerplant allowed the LFA to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 202 mph via a six-speed automated manual transmission.
Beyond its raw performance, the LFA was designed to make a visual impact. Its aggressive design included a menacing rear spoiler, extensive aerodynamic components, and carbon fiber trim throughout the vehicle. In fact, 65% of the car’s body was constructed from carbon fiber-reinforced polymer, complemented by aluminum, titanium, and magnesium. Before production, two concept versions of the LFA were tested at the Nurburgring, and the final model made its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2009.

Only 500 units of the LFA were ever produced, between December 2010 and December 2012. Each one was hand-built by a specialized team of engineers and technicians at Toyota’s Motomachi plant in Aichi, Japan. To add to its exclusivity, every engine was signed by the technician who assembled it, making each LFA a unique piece of automotive history. Inside, the cabin is designed with a race-ready aesthetic. It includes a digitized instrument cluster, alloy paddle shifters, and two body-hugging bucket seats. For those who appreciate the sound of the V10 engine, two octaves of engine noise are channeled into the cabin through ducts connecting the firewall to the intake manifold. According to the LFA Registry, this particular unit was built in October 2011 and even comes with a video of its delivery to Lexus of Bellevue in Washington.
Market Value and Rarity
Given the LFA’s legendary status, limited production numbers, and high-performance credentials, it’s no surprise that examples of the LFA command significant prices. This 2012 Lexus LFA listed on Exotic Car Trader carries an asking price of $899,999. According to Hagerty’s Valuation Tool, a well-maintained 2012 LFA is valued at around $775,000, while Concours condition models can reach up to $928,000. Considering this car has only 4,402 miles on it, it may fall into the higher valuation range. However, it’s worth noting that a similar LFA failed to sell on eBay for $950,000 just a few months ago, suggesting that market demand can be unpredictable.
An Engineering Marvel
Regardless of personal opinions on its value, the Lexus LFA remains an engineering marvel. From its advanced materials to its powerful V10 engine, the LFA set a new standard for performance and design. It is unlikely that we will see another car like it from Lexus in the future, making this example a truly special opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
