After 2 p.m. on June 7, DAFR crews were dispatched along the 300 block of San Benito Street. Crews arrived in six minutes, according to Doña Ana Fire.
According to DAFR, when crews arrived, they encountered an active fire in a single-wide mobile home.
Crews confirmed all occupants were out of the structure but were told several animals were left inside, Doña Ana Fire said.
Despite attempts to rescue, fire crews found 15 dead animals, DAFR said.
No other occupants were inside the home, and no other injuries were reported, Doña Ana Fire said.
DAFR said crews extinguished the fire and remained on scene to make sure all hotspots were put out.
Later in the evening, DAFR was dispatched to the same address for reports of smoke. Crews responded and confirmed the smoke was residual steam and there were no remaining hot spots.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
